STAY HONESTby Phil BartleTraining HandoutWe will be happier and more healthy when we are honestWe already know that a mobiliser, to be successful, must not only be honest, but be seen to be honest. But here we are going to talk about the role that honesty plays in the health of the mobiliser, and thus in her or his overall effectiveness. We know that to lie we need a superb memory. We must remember what we told to which persons, so that subsequent stories are consistent with the lies. If we are always honest, we do not have to keep an elaborate scheme of inter-relating stories in our memories. We do not have to fear making a mistake, and being caught out in our lies. And that fear lies at the base of a strain on our health. Anxiety about being caught out in our lies produces stress, and that stress is unhealthy. When we are stressed, our immune system is challenged, and we more easily catch colds, the flu or other viruses. We are less able to fight malaria, and we are more susceptible to water borne diseases that cause diarrhoea. When we are ill often, then we are less able to maintain the positive attitude and approach that is required of every mobiliser. Staying honest reduces our stress, and increases our health and effectiveness. ––»«––© Copyright 1967, 1987, 2007 Phil Bartle
